
A poorly fitting saddle can adversely affect both horse and rider, causing physical damage as well as behavior and training issues.

• Being cold-backed when mounted
• Slow to warm up or relax
• Short-strided
• Resistance to work or unwillingness to perform certain tasks
• Difficulty in engaging the hindquarters
• Front leg lameness, stumbling, or tripping
• Exaggerated stiffness in one direction
• Rushing or bolting
• Inability to round back and/or neck
• Inability to travel in a straight line
• Swishing tail, pinning ears, grinding teeth, tossing head
• Muscular atrophy
• Hypersensitivity to being brushed or touched
• White hairs or scar tissue underneath the saddle
• Exhibiting a "bad attitude"
• Difficulty in keeping your legs in position
• Being thrown back or tipped forward
• Tension or pain in the back during and after riding
